ASCAP Singer/Songwriter Brett Mitchell, is a multiple year recipient of Great Lakes Bay awards including Review Magazine's Critics' Choice award for Rock Songwriter of the Year, Best Rock Band, and fan voted awards Best Solo Artist, Best Male Vocalist, and Best Songwriter! With 3 albums under his belt and a fourth on the way, folky-indie-pop-rock Brett Mitchell has established himself as an in-demand musician all over his beloved state of Michigan and beyond.
A drummer turned guitarist turned singer/songwriter, Brett balances solo acoustic guitar gigs with performances featuring his band, Brett Mitchell & the giant GHOST, with Mitchell singing lead from the drums and acoustic guitar in those shows, and sometimes at the same time, add harmonica! Brett Mitchell & the giant GHOST is a power trio or 4 piece, depending on the occasion.
"Lennon and McCartney changed my life." Other influences include Ben Folds, Elvis Costello, Neil Young, Travis, The Walkmen, CCR and the Strokes. "My influences have always started with Neil Young, based off an acoustic guitar, some insightful lyrics, a melody; that's the core of my original music." All Brett’s music is available on iTunes, Spotify, Pandora, Apple Music, and most all digital services.
He can swing soft and lo but, also, rock yer socks off. The captivating performances vary between a full night of all originals, all covers, and a mix (which is most popular), offering soothing background music, ceremony songs, upbeat party tunes, festival showcases, or full out dance band for weddings and parties. Brett is a maniacal world class drummer and keeps his hand in his blues/rock roots with his side project, Gutbucket, a band based in NYC and playing occasional shows in Michigan, also, with childhood fellow original band members, Dave Kellan and Jacob Krull.
Brett’s schedule is always full, playing music full time over 150 shows per year and constantly touring. Born in Midland, he has immigrated into the Northern Michigan music scene, now happily living in Alden.
