Last week we brought you a chic and stylish winter wedding featuring the fashion of baabaazuzu... this week we wanted to fill you in a bit on this lovely Northern Michigan company and the ideas behind the designs! Do you zuzu?! Sue Burns, founder and lead designer of these reusable wears started baabaazuzu in 1993 and since then she, and her talented team, have been named a Michigan 50 Company to Watch amongst a slue of other regional and national accolades. A graphic designer, Sue realized she had "something" with the shrunken sweaters and other knits from her children. What started as a resourceful way to use the then tiny sweaters from her kids transformed into new mittens and then gained quite the following when friends started asking her to make them their own! Sue uses a process called felting to create the stylish designs of baabaazuzu and what a perfect blend of old and new- the previous life of sweaters, blankets, scarves all made anew in her creations.
With over 900 retailers across the country the baabaazuzu team have reached celebrity status keeping the fingers warm of stars such as Caroline Rhea and Jeffery Ross- guys can zuzu too! Even though spring is around the corner here in Traverse City, be sure to pick up a pair of fingerless mittens, scarves or adorable buttons to accessorize your outfit. Afterall, you never know when Mother Nature may unleash a wintery fury on us, one can never be too prepared or too stylish!
