Slow Juke Photography
How did you get into the wedding industry?
We love photography, and our own wedding day was the most spectacular feeling. We really wanted to relive and preserve that as much as possible, for our own soul and others!
How would you describe your style?
We feel our gift is to celebrate the extremes in life. The sacred, the deep, the romantics, the dramatics, the fantasy, and the beautiful madness that makes up your wedding day. Preserving the most wonderful moments of the best day of your life is our specialty. We aren’t afraid to enhance those moments and prefer to turn the emotional volume up to the max.
What is your favorite part of a wedding?
Whenever there is a moment that someone is overtaken with emotion. Typically the Bride and Groom seeing each other for the first time. Surprises are always fun to photograph!
What are some of your favorite trends from last wedding season?
Last year we really loved watching dueling pianos, figurative photography becoming more and more in demand, smores bars, outdoor venues, metallics, moody lighting, destination weddings, and brides and grooms being much more expressive, bold, and individual with their choices of hair, accessories, dresses, colors, music, etc.
What advice do you have for couples about choosing a photographer?
Go further than liking a photographer's past work. Make sure that you are a fit on both ends, to make the most of it. A lot of couples might love a style when they see it for someone else, however don't consider that maybe they aren't the type to take the same risks. If you like bold photography, you must be willing to go over the top yourself to get a once in a lifetime shot. Dance in the rain, walk in the waves, kiss on the rooftop, etc! If you would like more traditional photography, be sure your venue and photographer's style speaks to that as well. Always remember a good photographer will extract the most beauty possible from your moments, but they are your moments. Make them! :D
How far in advance should a couple look into booking your services?
At least a year, but always inquire. We try our best to squeeze in a "perfect fit," even if we are at capacity.
What advice do you have for couples about the planning process?
I would say the best parts always come from making it your signature. Put your own stamp on your wedding day, as much as you can and throw away the rule book. Looking back, you'll always be glad you personalized and went bolder. Most importantly, the more relaxed and in the moment you two are, the more your photographs and memories will say so. Research your vendors and then put full trust in them. The less you are worried about what they are doing and enjoying your day---the better their work and your satisfaction will be. The memories preserved tell a story. Showcase your genuine love and happiness on your wedding day. Leave the worries at the door.
