Hello! My name is Rachel and I am the owner of Sincerely, Ginger Event Design & Production. We specialize in serving clients around the globe looking to host their destination wedding in Northern Michigan.
How did you get into the wedding industry?
My interest in events began while I was living in Seattle and working in my university's admissions office, planning events for incoming students. I then worked with an art museum for a while and soon found myself interning with an event planner, where we did everything from Bat Mitzvahs to celebrity weddings. I fell in love and knew this was the career choice for me.
When my husband and I moved to Traverse City, I fell in love with the culture, the nostalgia that the area held, and the people that this region attracted. The sentiments were similar to how I felt about Minnesota and my experiences growing up on the lake every summer. I started patiently attracting clients who were friends or friends of friends, and have spent the past four years growing a company that serves around 30 couples a year. My dream come true!
How would you describe your style?
Minimalist, elegant, and natural. Our design process was created around how to bring a couple’s story to life in a way that is approachable and values guest experience above all else. Rather than focusing on unnecessary decor, we see it as our privilege to create memories for our couples and their guests. Details that are significant- from welcome baskets to the dinner soundtrack, we want it all to have meaning.
What is your favorite part of a wedding?
Such a hard question! I love cocktail hour - usually this is when the couple sees their reception design come to life for the first time (which is so gratifying to me as a “word of affirmation” person :)). But also, they are able to relax after the ceremony and enjoy their friends and family after portraits. Not to mention… cocktails!
What are some of your favorite trends from this wedding season?
The best trends, in my opinion, are the things that bring more meaning into the day. “Unplugged” ceremonies are a favorite of mine as they allow guests to focus on what matters. Visually, any design that incorporates nature is a breath of fresh air!
What advice do you have for couples about choosing a wedding coordinator?
Choose somebody you trust and click with. You need to be able to rely on that person to execute the biggest day of your life - you don’t want to be worried about them doing it “right." Select someone you will trust to be the expert and let them guide you. They should also make it enjoyable from day one!
How far in advance should a couple look into booking your services?
Typically 12-18 months in advance.
What advice do you have for couples about the planning process?
Have fun with it! If you’re working with a planner or designer, trust them and allow them to take things off your plate. Don’t stress if an idea you had doesn’t come together as you imagined - nobody with know except you! :)
What do you love about living and working in Northern Michigan?
So much! The creative community here is so supportive, inspiring, and down to earth. Living here we have access to amazing scenery, restaurants, wine, and so much more. Sometimes I feel like we are on a permanent vacation!
