Meridian is a husband and wife team based in Northern Michigan, living our dream of shooting international destination weddings all over the world. We tell stories with a striking, candid, photographic style. What inspires us? Truth. Love stories. Mountains. Old glamour. Classical music. We can't wait to hear all about your dreams for your wedding day!
How did you get into the wedding industry?
I've worked as a photographer since the age of 16, when I started taking portraits at Sears Studio. I realized quickly that I didn't enjoy shooting in a staged, over-posed style. Over the years, I gravitated toward weddings because of the romance, the emotion, and the thrill of capturing the excitement of the greatest day of people's lives. I was fortunate to spend years interning under a very talented photographer and honing my own style as I learned the ins and outs of the industry.
How would you describe your style?
Our style is relaxed and honest, with an artistic and edgy influence. We adore little unique touches, spectacular views, and moody lighting.
What is your favorite part of a wedding?
Whatever moment makes the bride and groom's faces light up or brings happy tears to their eyes is my favorite moment of the day - often this is the first look or the walk down the aisle.
What are some of your favorite trends from this wedding season?
I enjoy seeing how each couple makes the day - traditions and all - uniquely their own.
What advice do you have for couples about choosing a photographer?
Look for a style that grabs your attention - your wedding photos are one of the only remaining mementos of your wedding day, so make sure you find someone who knows how to turn those moments into pieces of art that you will want displayed for years to come. Also make sure the photographer jives well with your personality, and understands the vision you have for your wedding day.
How far in advance should a couple look into booking your services?
We often book two years ahead for popular wedding dates, but we have also booked as last minute - even a month ahead of the date! The more notice we have, the better the chance we'll be available.
What advice do you have for couples about the planning process?
As stressful as planning can get - don't lose sight of the end goal: you're getting married to your best friend! Remember that planning can teach you a lot about how to be patient with each other, just don't forget to keep pursuing and cherishing each other all along the way.
What do you love about living and working in Northern Michigan?
Ahhh, Northern Michigan! Wherever our travels take us, we always come home saying that we'd never want to live anywhere but here. Clean, fresh, and full of the most genuine and caring people around. Oh, and the magnificent scenery doesn't hurt either!
