My name is Melissa with Lux Light Photography, and I have been in LOVE with weddings since my first Disney Princess movie! I didn't know it then, but I am a romantic, and geared much of my life experiences toward capturing the authenticity of emotion, the journey of a lifetime, and the true magic that occurs throughout our relationships. This is why, with each wedding, I simply fall in love with who you are as a couple, and how each and every detail throughout your wedding day defines this.
My wish for my couples is that every minute of this perfect day is captured because this is the memory that you will have forever. This is all that you can take away from this day – the memories that you have in your heart, that you hold inside you – and the corresponding moments captured in our photography. There is no other goal, more important than this. And that is my only focus, now and forever.
How did you get into the wedding industry?
I actually worked as a Digital Technician for a commercial photographer in Minneapolis MN where I then advanced to the Product Photography industry for Target, Corp. It was there that I fell in love with the art form that is photography, and congruently, the post processing magic that ensues. I had friends who became wedding photographers out of our office and invited me to work weekends for their company and before I knew it, I was hooked! I quit my corporate job, started Lux Light Photography, and have been delighting in the wedding world ever since!
How would you describe your style?
My style is very colorful and warm, authentic to the colors that surrounds us in the beautiful landscape of northern Michigan. Coming from a different state, I can appreciate the love and adoration that so many of my couples experience for the area and what drives them to have their wedding in northern Michigan. Recognizing that magic, I strive to capture the beauty of the area landscapes and compliment the perfection and candid emotion that spill from my clients throughout every moment of their wedding day. Enriched with warm tones and vintage inspired editing, my photos become a classic portrayal of pure emotion and utter beauty.
What is your favorite part of a wedding?
To me, the most amazing part of weddings is the First Look. It is a moment so often forgotten in the hustle and bustle of the day, but also the most important, because you get to spend a few moments realizing that out of the cultivation of years of planning, this moment right now, begins the start of your forever. It is priceless. It is intimate. And it always brings emotion brimming to the surface that is purely candid in every way.
What are some of your favorite trends from this wedding season?
I absolutely LOVE when a bride incorporates real flowers into her hair, most often seen this year as a floral crown or head piece. It truly compliments the rustic elegance that is northern Michigan and can often set the tone of her entire style as she first walks down the aisle. And the flowers can be tailored to match any color scheme, season, or personal flare, and I can't get enough of it!
What advice do you have for couples about choosing a photographer?
As a wedding photographer, I am here to guide you, to design the vision that you have dreamed for your wedding day, and magically make it come to life in guaranteed gorgeous photos that will forever evoke true, authentic emotion and memories of this day. This is a promise that I have made to you. You DESERVE to have flawless wedding photos! But how in the world are you supposed to know, which wedding photographer is the right fit for you?
It is crucial to form a bond of trust, loyalty, and friendship when choosing a photographer. You have to enjoy their personality as much as their photography style. As one of the only people that will be with you throughout the day, we need to be able to click - laugh with each other, share concerns and fears with each other, and even cry together! As a photographer, I see moments and behind-the-scenes events that no one else ever will, and in order to enjoy these personal times together, we need to enjoy it with each other!
How far in advance should a couple look into booking your services?
9-12 months, the earlier the better!
What advice do you have for couples about the planning process?
I can’t stress this enough - remember WHY you are planning a wedding. Remember WHY you are designing centerpieces and bouquets. It is because you are starting the adventure of a lifetime, and promising to love someone forever. This is the start of your lives together. Live it. Breath it. Covet it. You will live in peace, happiness, and joy. And most of all, you will experience each and every moment of this journey together. Congratulations, your life starts now! So go out, and enjoy it!
