It was a gorgeous September day on Lake Leelanau for Claire & Evan's wedding. The vintage summertime theme, accented with bold black and white stripes and dashes of yellow, turquoise, and pink, came alive at Fountain Point resort where their families and friends gathered to joyously celebrate their union.
From Claire: I always knew I wanted an outdoor wedding on a lake, and Evan grew up vacationing in Leland, so having our nuptials take place in Northern Michigan was meant to be. When I saw Fountain Point, I instantly fell in love with its old 1950’s charm and its convenient location across the water from Evan’s grandfather’s lake house.
We wanted our day to be laid back while still highlighting as many personal touches as possible, and with the help of Rachel and Sarah at Sincerely Ginger Weddings we were able to achieve just that. Inspired by the concept of summers at the lake, we chose to incorporate rowboats, paddles, and camping lanterns into my choice pattern of bold black and white stripes. Evan’s Aunt Nan seamlessly incorporated lush and vibrant florals, with my favorite golden colored Billy Balls and red berries, in a way that was effortlessly elegant and relaxed. Depictions of Fountain Point, the lake, and other Leland landmarks such as the Cheese Shack were represented in both our stationary and decor by Evan’s aunt Lane’s watercolors (fun fact, she even used to work at Fountain Point during her teenage years!) Our sister and bridesmaid Crystal helped with DIY colorful chalkboard signs for the event, and my Aunt Sue generously made all of the jewelry for the bridal party in my favorite stone, turquoise.
Having so many handmade elements from our family made our wedding day even more meaningful, and we are forever thankful they shared their talents with us. Although the day went by quickly and much of it is a blur, I will always remember starting the cloudy and rainy day with yoga on the beach (led by sister/bridesmaid/yoga teacher Leslie), reciting self written vows with Evan under the beautiful wooden arbor my dad made, with the bright sun shining down on all of us, and rocking the night away, singing along with our band to "Hang on Sloopy," with all of our friends and family under the crystal clear, starry, lake sky.
