Mother's Day is just around the corner and this is the most popular holiday of the year for floral. Yup! It beats Easter, Valentine's Day, & Christmas believe it or not. Moms love flowers. If you plan on gifting mom with something special this year, consider one of the ideas below - it's fun to think outside of the box when it comes to gifting floral/plants/pretties.
--Terrarium Day: Last year my mom and I spent all of Mother's Day making cool terrarium/succulent planters for around her house. Your local Home Depot has a ridiculous selection. So take mom with you to shop for a fun vessel & succulents. Don't forget cactus soil, rocks or pebbles for drainage, and some fun moss for accents. Glass jars work wonders for terrariums if you want to see the layers! Watering tip: let soil dry out completely before you water each time.
--Visit the nursery: I don't know a mom on the planet who doesn't want to have a lasting memory from time spent with their kiddos. Visit the nursery together and pick out a tree, shrub, or perennial that she will enjoy for years to come. What a fun afternoon to get in the dirt and leave your mark together on the yard. Bonus points if you find something that will bloom around Mother's Day each year (forsythia, lilac, etc.)
--Get to work in the yard! One year my mom requested we prune hostas and work outside in the flower beds together. If you're short on cash, offer to spruce up the yard and green things up for the season.
--Gifts that keep on blooming all summer: I had a friend who once sold 600 hanging baskets on Mother's Day. Friends, this is a trend for good reason. Pick up a beautiful hanging basket for mom. Trick it out by installing the hooks she needs to display it & enclose care instructions in her card.
You'll notice a lot of these options have one thing in common: spending time with mom. It's what she really wants this season. Even if you don't have two dimes to rub together, you've got time to write her a letter about how much she means to you and then spend the afternoon with her. If you live far away, call her. But remember, moms are the best, and a little 'living love' in the form of flowers, plants, trees, shrubs, & succulents, goes a long way.
Happy Mother's Day!
